Esmaeil Babaei, Board member of Directors of Iranian Genetics Society, obtained his BSc in Biology (2002) from Shahid Beheshti University, MSc (2005) & PhD (2012) with first rank in entrance exam in molecular genetics at Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran, Iran. He also spent 10 months on sabbatical leave in 2012 and three months’ fellowship in cancer genetics in 2017; both in Austria, where he experienced cell imaging, sequencing and flow cytometry. Dr. Babaei is a continued member of EACR since 2015.

In 2012, Esmaeil joined the department of Biology at the University of Tabriz. Since then, he has been working as academic member pursuing both teaching and research activities. So far, he has published over 70 papers in prestigious journals, 30 presentations in international congresses and supervised over 50 MSc & PhD students in the fields of molecular genetics, cancer targeting and stem cells.

Dr. Babaei’s research is focused on the biomarker potential of circulating entities in cancer, pharmacogenetics, tumor therapy with nano-based phytochemicals and employment of CRISPR/Cas system in cancer and stem cells. Esmaeil’s team is very proud of getting annual Biotechnology award in 2015 for designing and characterization of Curcuden anticancer compound. In collaboration with international institutes, his group is working on NGS data analysis and applications.
