Mehri Haeili earned her BSc degree in Biology from University of Tabriz (2003-2007) and MSc and PhD degrees in Microbiology from University of Tehran, Iran (2007-2014). She joined the Department of Infectious Diseases at University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA as research assistant (Jan 2013-Feb 2014) and worked on the development and discovery of novel anti-tuberculosis compounds. She is currently serving as Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Biology at University of Tabriz (since 2015). She has supervised several master’s theses and authored more than 30 papers in international journals. Her research is focused on the molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in bacterial isolates from human and animal sources. In particular, her laboratory is currently working on unravelling the molecular determinants of resistance to last-resort gram- negative antibacterials including colistin, tigecycline and carbapenems.
